Cup Joy For Connaught United

The Committee of the Wolverhampton & District Sunday Football League would like to congratulate Connaught United on winning the Mac Webb Cup on Friday night.

Connaught United beat Pilot 3-2 in a wonderful Cup Final played in the best spirit from both sides.

A pulsating Cup final saw Connaught take the lead after 10mins with Man Of The Match Cieran Clifton notching his first goal.

Wayne Blake scored for Pilot in the 54th minute to level things up, Connaught United then went ahead again in 74th minute, with Cieran Clifton scoring his second.

Pilot were still not giving up and deservedly equalised in the 80th minute with Ryan McNeil scoring to make it 2-2.

Note* Connaught United have also secured the Runners Up spot in Division Three this season.

With the game now level and both teams matching each others commitment, Connaught United kicked off and immediately went on the attack and with a quick break towards the Pilot goal, Cieran Clifton finished a move with a shot to score what was to be the winning goal on the night.

Pilot played their part in this Cup Final and were a credit to the League as they stayed to offer their support to Connaught United, having received their runners up medals with their players applauding as the Connaught United collected their medals and the Mac Webb Cup.

John Hughes as many people will know is Mr Connaught United, a loyal Secretary and a true gentleman who has dedicated so much of his time over the years, never ever being able to win the silverware he longed for.

2022 will be remembered in the history of the Sunday League when John Hughes finally fulfilled his dream to see his beloved team lift some silverware and be crowned the winners of the Mac Webb Final.

They have also achieved the Runners Up Spot in Division Three this season.

Well done Connaught United.
